I own a PST5 prepack which I puchased for $240. In recent shopping for ideal cymbals for myself, I saw shocking results from completed ebay sales.
I could find a Zildjian 20'' A Ping ride, a set of 13'' K special/Z dyno beat hi-hats and an 18'' A medium crash for around $223
eBay is your friend. Cheap cymbals sound OK, but pro cymbals will sound much better and last longer.

I 100% agree with this. I got a NEW 16" A Zildjian Thin Crash off of Ebay for $100 and I am looking at a 20" New Medium Ride for even cheaper than that. Ebay is perftect for anyone on a tight budget. There are plenty of deals floating around on Ebay.

yes, i would probly never buy anything big (cymbals, kits even) from my local store. for drumheads, sticks, small things the local store is great, but there are so many great deals on ebay. i cant wait till i get a little more money so i can buy some cymbals off ebay

eBay id definatly a good choicew but i sorta may suggest geting something reall y cheap like Cambers because young drumers may not know what sound they want yet.

let's face it. When you get your first drum set when your 11 years. you have the crappiest set. Your cymbals turn inside out. but its still frickin awesome! Your playing drums! how frickin sweet is that? begginers can buy good crap after they get good. otherwise they'll just buy a bunch of expenisive stuff and quit drumming and be screwed.

Man I've said this in probably 1,000 of my 4,000 + posts! I'm glad other people are starting to figure it out.
Another case against beginner cymbals is that they sound horrible.
They have a price point that lets people with not as much money feel like they are getting a good deal, when in all actuality, cheap cymbals are ridiculously overpriced for what you get, considering a pro-level cymbal is not that much more money (and when you buy used, the same amount of money!).
I understand that a ZBT pack is only $150, and the same thing in A Customs is $650, but you'd still be better off buying less good cymbals than buying crappy ZBTs.
HOWEVER!
If I were running a beginning drum school and needed lots of cymbal packs for drumsets, I'd probably buy ZBTs ;-) I'd save the good cymbals for the better players and kits.
So there you have it why ZBTs suck and don't suck all at the same time.

E-bay is definitely a good case against beginner cymbals. My only problem with buying from e-bay is that you don't get to try before you buy. Also a digital picture, although it can give you a general idea of what you are buying doesn't always portray an acurate representation of the prouduct. My thing right now is craigslist. I have scored some sweet cymbals at a great price from people and I get to try before I buy.
