I'm curious to see who likes vintage Ludwig kits, I love em, there's something about the looks and sound of an older kit that makes me get goose bumps.

No offense, but I think they're ugly peices of crap that should be removed from the planet as soon as possible.
But really, I love vintage drums. Just something about them....

I love any kind of Ludwig. The fact that they're vintage would only me love them more.

I'm a big sucker for vintage drums in general. Played clear Ludwig vistalites for the better part of 25 years. Now I got 6 ply Ludwigs - 26, 15, 16, 18.

I love the old jazz vintage kits, mainly the simplicity about them and the fact they still chuck out a nice sound.

I love them too. I think they're just so much more fun to play, when you can sit behind them and imgine you're Buddy Rich or something... really great times. And who could forget the classic sparkle finishes...

I think the vintage ludwigs sound much better than the ones they make today. I dunno why, it's just something about them...

I would love to have a 1969 ludwig maple kit in the Bonham sizes with the same head combination and tuning techniques he used. Then I'd put them in a large ambient room and just wail. That's a dream of mine that hopefully will someday come true.....

Ludwig, even if they are a shadow of what they once were in popularity... have a place in history... man HOW MUCH LEGENDARY MUSIC was laid on Ludwigs?
And they STILL make great sounding drums... Ludwig was all about sound... not so much the innovation aspect of it... but the sound of it... to me Ludwig MEANS drums... just drums you know?... sweat, noise and all the grit of it... ha, ha, ha...
Maybe for personal memories... perhaps... but still to this day I think YOU CANT DO BETTER than a 5"x14" Supraphonic... or a Black Beauty with Ambassador heads... Ludwig snare drums have that magic... I have a DW Collector snare... it's a beauty... and man I wouldn't THINK too much of changing it for a Black Beauty...
Well maybe a Rogers Dynasonic... ha, ha, ha

i own some clear vistalites from the 70s. my main complaint has to do with the railmount for the tom. i use a seperate stand for the tom but im just much more used to the modern tom mounting systems. its that extra few inches more of reach over to the floor tom that i seriously dont like. id love a wooden kit from that era tho, no doubt. i liked my 70s slingerland better, had the superior mounting rod, but its a wood drumset so its hard to compare with, essentailly a plastic drumset.

Well maybe a Rogers Dynasonic... ha, ha, ha You're right man, it's all about the sound with Ludwigs, the hardware seemed to be an after thought, I can just see Mr. Ludwig saying "oh yeah, we need something to hold the tom on the bass drum, here put this banana looking thing on the bass and an L arm tightened up by large bolts, we'll include a tool to tighten it with, people will eventually lose it and have to resort to using a pair of plyers." Luckily the drums made up for the hardware, Ludwigs are special drums.

Ya know, in addition to loving vintage Ludwigs, my personal favorite drum sound (mostly the toms) in a recording has to be the sound of Alan White's drums on The Ladder.

I'll only ever play vintage drums and my first choice are Ludwig 3 plys (although I'd like to get some old Slingerlands someday). I started by putting together a Bonham sized kit but am looking to get 22" and 20" kicks and smaller tom sizes for a little more variety. I'm really into the old stuff equipment-wise and playing-wise. I like the drumming style of the 60's and 70's drummers best. I like the way they played fills. It just seemed more melodic and jazzlike to me for some reason. As a consequnce, a lot of newer style bands find me a bit off-putting. But, yeah, vintage "Wigs" rule.

Only so long till I receive mine, and it is just like getting it out of the store from the 60's, it is in that good condition!
Can't wait, really, it is killing me!

How could you not love'em, my favorite sounding drums and great quality to boot. Anyone who has vintage drums should try the Olchtree Attack heads, coated over coated, they sound increadible, my drum teacher commented on how great they sounded on my Luddies, and couldnt help himself from playing around on them for a few minuets.

My first kit was a Premier 4-piece in the late 60's, and moved to a Slingerland 4-piece in the early 70's -- they were both awesome kits! But most of my friends who played drums played Ludwigs.....they were classics then and they're classics now.
I love vintage kits, I play a 60's gray sparkle maple kit at my lessons that compaired to my sonor 2005 at home kills it! the sound is amazing. I'm currently on the look out for a champagne sparkle kit 20 12 14

My main gig set for the last few years has been a clear Vistalite from the late 70's. GREAT look, great bass. The toms have roundness and bearing edge issues, but I tune 'em the best I can. Also use an old Keystone badge Acrolite to round out the kit. The drums sound good and are fantastic conversation pieces - I've met lots of drummers at gigs that came up on a break to check 'em out.

I absolutely love my newer Ludwigs, but I would die to have a set of vintage ones. When I was younger I owned a 7 pc. set of Pearl Exports and a friend wanted to trade me for his 5 pc. set of Ludwig Vistalites and I didn't. I could kick myself really hard for not doing that. One day I'll have a vintage kit.
