hi drummres, this is my first post. i just got to play the drums recently for a few months and i want to learn double bass drumming. there's no teacher on this subject in the area i stay. and i found out this site - which i think is incredibly rich in drums related info.

i can play basic drums beat using heel up. basic quarter notes, 8th notes and 16 notes with no accent cause my fingers are crap. i'm into all things hard/heavy rock and metal. i play guitar in a band for 13 years but i'm a drummer now (too long of a story to tell :( ). i can do about 160 - 180 bpm playing simple rock beats. my fills are extreme amateurish and uninspiring.

i'm looking for a book with audio CD OR DVD (not VHS) on learning how to apply double bass drumming to songs. i want to learn the bass/groove patterns.

i have preference for heel up only and i'm interested on how to play double bass drum grooves, beats and rhythm patterns. i like devildriver's drummer, joey slipknot, shadow fall's drummer and chris alder. i'm not into constant 16th bass notes playing.

i do hope you guys can advise me on these and i tried searching the forum for instructional DVD/book/CD but can't seem to find detail review on double bass drumming. maybe i haven't tried hard enough. if there are posts on this subject, please let me know the links, thanks.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but you can find free *beginner* double bass lessons online at www.doublebassdrumming.com

They will guide you through the basics - if that is what you need.

There is also a lot of free info posted on YouTube from Tim Waterson and others.

Encyclopedia of Double Bass Drumming (on Amazon) is a great resource too.

well, ''Thomas Lang - Creativity Controll'' has some neat stuff about double bass, but it's pretty adavnced!

Ok so i live in Sonoma Ca and my drum teacher just released a book on learning how to play the double bass. It works for beginners and has stuff up to the very advanced. Some of you may know of him: Jim Holland he released the Complete Book Of Drum Fills several years ago. I think he is an excellent teacher and i would suggest his book. He has a website www.jimholland.com, it is being released Oct 1st (he gave it to me early:)).

I would suggest learning basic notation and technique before you jump into double bass drumming. If you have already been taking lessons, then sorry.. belay my last =)
