Hi all
Now, I've been a bit familar with Bosphorus and Istanbul Agop.
So, are there any people who are familiar with the Mehmet Istanbul and Turkish. I heard they are good cymbals. But what are the main differences that you hear between the two istanbuls . And how is Turkish compared to the other ones.
Thanks

When Agop Tomurcek of Istanbul died, his two sons Arman and Sarkis split the company with Mehmet, forming Istanbul Agop carried on by the family, and Istanbul Mehmet owned by Agop's business partner Mehmet. I've heard alot about Mehmet cymbals being inferior to Agop cymbals. I've never bothered to buy any mehmets so i can't say first hand. i know mehmet cymbals are a bit cheaper than agops (which could lead some people to believe that they're of inferior quality perhaps?)
both companies produce alot of the same series but they also have unique lines. Agop have the Special Edition cymbals, Agop Signatures, Tony Williams rides, among others. Mehmet makes some neat looking cymbals called Marmara and EFES.
I'm pretty sure Turkish cymbals are cheap knockoffs of Istanbuls, but i could be mistaken here. others might have more info.
I personally see no reason to look beyond Agop and Bosphorus for cymbals since they are the best manufacturers in the world, in my opinion.

Thanks for the reply, but I really doubt about that!

I own a setup of 14 inch hihats. 17 and 18 inch crashes a 12 inch splash and a 20 inch ride, all mehmet sultan series. the sound is beatiful compare to other cymbals. i also have the same setup on Zildjian K fast crashes-hh-ride-splash. The sound is very similar for both of these. I'm now looking to add ufip class series. as far as the quality of mehmet cymbals i am very please with them. I believe agop and Bosphorus could benefit a little if they drop prices a little. I take the mehmets any day for that price difference

I have a Mehmet Sultan 22" ride and an Agop Alchemy Hi-hat, and I love them both. I've tried a lot of Mehmets and Agops and I can say that Mehmets are just as well made as Agops. They all sound excellent to me. Mehmets are less trashy, though, which I prefer.
The reason why Mehmets can seem cheaper is that they don't spend as much money on advertising as Agop does.

That's true, they don't sound very good (compared to Ibuls and Bos'), but they don't cost as much.

Well, if you don't look beyond your favourite brand, you won't find better, that's for sure.

I asked Tony at cymbalsonly.com about this and he told me that all the various Turkish names (Mehmet, Agop and Bosphorus) are of comparable quality. Also, include Meinl Byzance in that category.
I believe agop and Bosphorus could benefit a little if they drop prices a little.
Whoa...go look at the price tags on many Zildjian K's and Sabian Hand Hammered's and you might not feel that way. Agop and Bos are for the most part much cheaper than Zildjian and Sabian, and especially Paiste.
