"NO !"

Not at all, better look at Sabian B8 or Meinl MCS or Paiste PST5...

planet Zs are zildjians version of the solars they are crap like the solars you the b8s mcs and pst5 or zbts (i think thats what they are) are the good starter cymblas offered by sabian , meinl, pasite and zildjian those are what you should shoot for the. the solars and planet Zs are brass witch makes horrible cymbals where the higher lines are bronze with high class cymbals are made out of.

what do you think about meinl headliners . i have them on my set and comparing them to the solars that my drum school has they are much better .

I went to Best Buy the other day and they have a souns proof room with a drum set in it with Solar cymbals...I have B8's...The B8's sound better except for the china..The solar china sounded really really good

o..m...g... i wudnt touch solar cymbals with a 10 foot pole, for fear of the incredible suckiness rubbing off on me... if ur looking for a gd entry level cymbal, i wud go with zildjian zxts, they are fairly inexpensive, they sound decent for the price, and u can add them to ur intermediate line-up as you progress as a drummer.

I like. Great value. I prefer the ride and the hats to the crash. The Sabian pro sonix crash I have been playing in my lessons is a nicer crash.

Heinl headliners are sooo much better than solar..but i would say b8 pro is the best "entry" lever cymbal

go for Sabian B8, Zildjian ZBT (..mabye even ZXTs but i dont think they are as good) or the Paiste PST3 or 5. Just remember this, you pay for what you get. if you buy a load of cymbals cheap then 9 times out of 10, they sound cheap. Cymbals can be like an investment and sometimes its worth paying a little more and getting a whole better sound.

To correct the post above, PST3s are not much better than Solars or Planet Z's. All this brass nonsense. ZBT's are awful, Sabian B8s are a little better and ZXT's are cringe-worthy. Nope, you'd be better off going for some Sabian Xs20's if you can afford it, or PST5's if you can't. Perhaps even some Wuhan S Series or if you have the patience some Stagg cymbals. (Patience to try them all out until you find some reasonable ones that is). Failing ALL that, Sabian B8s.

I'm with MFB on this one. In addition I'd look for some used B8Pro's on eBay if you're into the used cymbal idea. I sold two B8Pro 18" crashes for under $40.

ive got a sabian solar 16" crash that came with my kit.

its not very good at all (it made of brass as well)

it sounds like a quiet gong when u play it

ive just bought my self a set of sabian xs20's so i wont be using the solar anymore!! which is good

if u are buying cymbals there is no point going for brass cymbals save up and get bronze (like b8 or b8 pro or maybe even some xs20's if u want to save up a bit more)

NO. trust me, buy a set of Sabian B8s or Mable some Zildjian ZBTs, but definetly dot solar. if you buy some solars now, you'll seriously regret it once you have been playing for a bit and have more experience. steer clear of them.

I saved £50 on the complete set up (drums and cymbals) by not buying the Solars and spent £100 on the Meinl MCSs and I'm happy that I did. If I had bought the Solars with the drum kit I'm sure I would have ditched them pretty quick and had to buy new cymbals anyway.

Thanks for all the advice on this.

Before going electronic, my cymbal set up consisted of:
(sabian)

14" Solar Hi-hat (Awful 'AH' open sound to it. Bottom hat sounds good as a crash!)
16" Solar Crash (Flimsy, tinny, weak cymbal!)
16" Pro Crash (I had to keep it! A beautiful cymbal that it use as a crash/ride!)
20" Solar Ride (Loud, Medium strength, great entry level cymbal!)

i have a set of solars and i didnt mind them at first but now that ive been playing for a while im getting wuite sick of them. The 14 hats are crap and make the worst sound ever but that might be because theres definetely something wrong with mine. Stay away from solars, save up money, and buy better mid range bronze cymbals
