Just had the pleasure to go into a studio. It was fun, but just when put away my nervousity, the session was over. But now I'm prepared...lol

You all know my DW-Kit - but I post the picture for the nice technical surroundings.

See the special production date of the kit....

Cymbals:Gadd Cymbal Session Series Set.

Next post will be about my old Ludwig....

Out of interest Berny, what microphones are you using there? Do I spy an SM58?

Bernhard

Well - I must investigate - give me some time. I just know, that the guys were very very careful with the two overheads...must be something special.

Ok mate... those overheads look like something special. I do like those mounting cradles, although the ones we have at school are knackered.

yeah i know those mics they are as expensive as a whole drum kit. studio stuff is always amazing to me. nice bright room with hard walls and a wooden floor. you must have been very loud in there. when can we hear a bit of what you recorded?

i would love to have a go on your kit. it looks so playable.

Bernhard, please remind me. Which DW drums are those? Collector's Series? And is the snare a match for the set or something else, like one from the Drummer's Choice line?

Bernhard
06-26-2005, 10:32 AM
It's early Sunday Morning and you Dog force me to go down into the cellar practise room to check out what's going on with my drums....well - ok, just pics 5 minutes ago.

The DW set (with this special datestamp in it) is Collectors Series without SnareDrum.
I used it for two years with this Black Beauty Ludwig Snare. Then I had the idea (for some trio jazz gigs) to use a wooden Snare. So this is a bit deeper Collectors Series normal DW-Snare - color just matching.

Fact is, that I love the Sound and use it now always and for everything.

-
Not to forget my old Ludwig-Set I own now for 40 years. This I use every week, because it's in the Band's practice room. If someone interested I put up the story with pictures over the years....again.

Heh! I remember those pictures, Bernhard with a moustache was a laugh to say the least. Your ludwig is just classy, I would have that over the DW almost... just because of the vintage.

How do you experience the K Custom Sessions cymbals? Do they actually sound like Gadd's setup? I actually have my doubt about signature products.

I also saw you earlier had an Istanbul ride. Do you like the K more? Had the Istanbul more a "handmade" character that the K?

P.S.: I see you have an UFIP splash. I heard some and they really suprised me. From my experience I only could say that this are great splashes.

Hi Pedro - Welcome on board

I'm very happy with those K Custom Sessions. I received them from Zildjian directly.
I'm sure they are close to the Gadd Sound - but like everything: believing is the whole rent.
I believe also, that Zildjian as big producer has a good quality control, so I think it's ok.
Exactly as described in Modern Drummer, i had to get used to the only 18' Ride. Sounds really strange, but in the Band and recordings just great. The updated new serie from Zildjian changed to 20' - so???

Yes I love also the Istanbul Ride. More for Trio Jazz - there the Rivets are important when I play brushes...

And the Splash UFIP: I have it for many years, it's just there - no problems - does the work fine.

I envy you. I stupidly opted for the "power toms" on my set which means there to big to put them as close to me as id like. I really love how your tom is so close its almost effotless to go from tom to snare to floor tom.

Hey Bernhard! This might be an off the wall question but, how did you mount that cowbell? I tried for like an hour to get mine to fit there with the hardware I got but coulnt do it. What would you recommend?

Bernhard

Hi PCR

No problem - this is the simplest and best for me: Just regular LP (Latin Percussion)
Mounted on the Bassdrum, all variations possible.

Your DW is amazing!!! I wish I had one myself. I just bought a Pacific so that's the first step up to a real DW Collector's. Those cymbals are very clean and blinking all around! It looks great. By the way I just joined today... Is there a introducing threat or something like that????

ALL: thanks for the compliments - but I like it to invest very much time and some money in Drummerworld - just a great hobby.

My money came from 30 years hard work in the insurance business as broker - no problem - only miss: never pro drummer, but creating Drummerworld is compensation.

EZRA: If you choosed Pacific, I'm sure there will never be a need of change to DW. The Shells are perfect and hardware you can upgrade always as you like. Congratulations on this Pacific Kit. ....ask DogBreath.....

EZRA: Of course - introduce yourself in the YOUR PLACE section.

Hey Bernhard! This might be an off the wall question but, how did you mount that cowbell? I tried for like an hour to get mine to fit there with the hardware I got but coulnt do it. What would you recommend?

Hi PCR!
Try this:
http://www.pearleurope.com/mediafiles/images/product/144_ca-100_large.jpg

Mount it on your bassdrum hoop (it has rubber on the jaws so you don't hurt the hoop.) The L-rod can go both ways through the bracket so you can place your cowbell where ever you want it!

Bernard:
Really nice setup you've got there! I'm not that fund of DWs' sound but they look beautiful anyway. But the setup itself is really cool - and those cymbals! They sound amazing.
And I guess this is my chance to tell you then... Drummerworld is an amazing site! I know we are a lot of drummers here from Denmark who spend A LOT of time studying videos and watching pictures! A big thank you for the great work gathering all the videos, interviews and pictures from Denmark!

Hey Bernhard!
I'm currently looking for the right kind of cowbell to add to my kit. What kind of LP cowbell are you using? Is it the same type that Steve Gadd uses? I really like his cowbell sound, but I don't know what kind he uses. If you happen to know I would really appreciate the information. Thanks again for everything you do for all drummers around the world with this incredible site. YOU DA MAN!

wow, that is a freaky date stamp. i'm suprised they didn't stop work on the kit since the attack happened before they opened up their shop in Calif. On the east coast we got out of school for a week but, i guess danger was less imminent there.

nice kit! i love the natural color and the Gadd cymbals are great. I always find a kit with the gadd ride on it when i go to my local G. Center because it sounds so great.

They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery. I recently received my Classic Birch Ludwig kit which I ordered in early January after viewing hundreds of pics and combinations in the Drummerworld, Your Drumset, database. Bernhard's DW set-up made quite an impression on me. It has a classic clean look. I've thoroughly enjoyed all that Drummerworld has to offer, it's the next best thing to playing.
