That's right, folks, I do actually have a kit. Nothing particularly exciting but I thought it was time I posted it. I was a noob when I bought a few things here, noticeably the Paistes, hence why they're all just boring medium weights. I have since righted the balance with some beautiful K Customs, but obviously they don't go with my other cymbals. Ideally I'd have a Zildjian set up for jazz, and a Paiste one for anything else. Give me time!

Yamaha Beech Customs - 12, 13 and 16, and 22.
Mapex Steel Black Panther snare
Pearl Omar Hakim Mahogany snare, never really used :( I have no idea how that face got in here...honestly
Paiste Innovations medium 14" hats
Paiste Innovations medium 16" and 18" crash (16 not shown)
Paiste Innovations medium 20" ride (not shown)
K Custom Special Dry Ride, my pride and joy
K Custom Left Side Ride (sizzle), a bit batty buying a 'left side' ride I know but it sounds great
DW 5000 double pedal of which I only ever use one!
DW 5000 hi-hat stand with extra pedal which I currently use with a cowbell.
Rest of the hardware is pearl.

Yeah the hi-hat stand is totally cool. I ordered it when I was in America, took about 6 weeks to arrive. It was worth the wait though.

If you're looking for technical terms regarding the sound of the rides, you're asking the wrong guy. Sorry! All I know is that the Special Dry Ride sounds absolutely amazing...and dry lol. The bell is also stunning - a lovely, full, but cutting tone. When I was at LAMA, people were muchos jealous of it :) One guy who worked there (Sticktrick - Mattieu) even borrowed it for a day to take it round all the drum stores looking for as close a soundalike as he could get, because he said he'd tried loads of them before but mine was just the daddy. He came back empty-handed...

My set up from a while ago. Its more "Bonham-esque) because I moved the 13" to a floor tom position. The cymbals are also spread out to. Im going to try to get more pics up tonight.

Very nice setup there, Womble. Both rides (especially the K) - I've never seen a cymbal actually marked as a 'left side ride'. How do the Paiste hats sound? Nice lathing on those. This is probably answered elsewhere, but how does beech sound in comparison with birch or maple? I have a Premier birch kit with beech reinforcement rings so I know it's a harder wood.

Thanks a lot man. If I remember right, I paid about £1100 for the drums, back in 2001. That's (very) roughly $2000.

To be painfully honest, I think I was mostly taken with the look of them - and they do look cool, as Loge said!! Actually, the crashes and ride are fine, but I'm not too keen on the hats. I'm very interested to try this Dark Energy series that everyone's creaming themselves over.

Beautiful kit!! I love the cymbals, I have the 21" K Custom Special Dry Ride also, and I love it!! I brought it to a jam session and all of the other drummers fell in love with it. How do you like the Left Side Ride? I almost bought one, but I ended up getting a regular K Ride with 6 rivets. I like the cymbal, but I think the left side ride would of been a slightly better choice.

I noticed your BC's have the diamond shaped badge, and mine are square glue on ones. Which are newer? I thought mine replaced the diamond shaped badges, then mine were replaced by square badges that have rivets instead of glue (or vice-versa, can't remember).

Looks like die-cast rims..I can't remember, did you replace yours with Pearl/Tama die-casts?

A couple of new additions then:

1) DW9000 kick. This thing really is nice. I always found the 5000 heavy and ungainly. The movement on the 9000 is a joy. Plus this time around I was old enough to know I'll never need a double pedal, so that was some money saved.

2) 10" Paiste Dark Energy Mark I splash. The Dark Energy series absolutely rules. This splash is almost harsh, metallic sounding (like, duh) but still rich and complex, you know?

I tried a 19" Dark Energy crash when I bought the splash and that was the most amazing crash I've ever heard, but it cost £400 ($800). Ouch.

Hot. Great addition to the kit, especially the 9000! Just played on the one of my teacher on Tuesday, he also bought it new and he also loves it. And I love it, exclusive thing, amazing quality, the spring isn`t totally fixed on the gantry...feels great!

The 9000s are so very smooth ive played them a few times as well, i want one! But ive heard the Dark energy splashes too (on the paiste site) and they sound great! I would also say it has a bit of a trashy sound to it as well, and they seem to have quite a short sustain?
