Some weeks ago a friend ( who plays guitar) and me made a sound check in my 'studio'.
Recording quality isn`t perfect, yet (drums are too loud) but I hope you like it!
Comments are sooo welcome! ;)

What happened to your bass drum? It sounds like you are playing a 16x16 floor tom with a mallet. I guess you really went wild and tuned it up really high?

Thanks for the nice comments!!!
Mhhh, no it isn`t a real professional studio but I`ve got professional stuff...a big mixer...many mics.
Stu: Yeah, I`ve tuned the bassdrum very high because many many people here said that my kick drum is too loud and too punchy. Now it is very soft...
Thanks everyone for the comments, more comments would be nice...so tell me what do you think. I hope you can enjoy it...

Very nice, keep the timing.
First: Thanks for all the nice comments...
Oh yeah, the timing thing: It was actually just a sound problem: When we played I couldn`t hear the guitar and sometimes then I heard the guitar, sometimes not etc.
It was so difficult to hold the right straight groove then...maybe next time we will use a micro for the guitar...because it is bad to be confused...lol
I would love to hear some more comments... ;)
thanks,

Good stuff, just need to tighten up the timing, particularly on some of the kick drum parts, just to really get the groove locked. Keep it going! Peace

Very good karl. I really love ur set up. Although, the kick sounds like a little weak. But hey that's just my preferences. I really love ur snare dynamics and ur fill. Awesome. Hey, mind telling us ur specs? Mics? Etc? Thanks...Nice Job

nice one karl!
thanks, thanks and thanks for the compliments!!!
Yeah, I know: The timing was horibble sometimes...I don`t know why...normally I play more natural, I have better ones...as I said: I`ve almost never heard the guitar, then I`ve heard it and I got a little bit confused. Then there was the bassdrum: strange problem to play it straight on...I don`t know why not.
One reason is: When I noticed that I couldn`t hear the guitar I tried to play everything calmer (Quote: "Although, the kick sounds like a little weak."- so I had to play it so weak) ...so I did it, but it was hard to keep the perfect control when you play as soft as you can...lol
the specs of my drums: http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3106
and the mic specs: all SAMSON: Q-kick mic, 3 tom mics, 1 mini snare drum mic, 2 overheads...

For a light, funky groove that you have here, the kick worked well. I think a fatter, slightly more dampened sound would have worked too...but that's nitpicking really. As far as the groove and fills, you used them well. You're a great drummer and you show maturity in your playing. Nice job.

Karl, this song "Some Funky Stuff" is the only one of yours that I can't download because this hosting site won't allow it unless I register. Can you add it to your page on PureVolume.com please?

DB, if you click on the hi-fi/lo-fi link instead, you can hear it, if that's all you're wanting.
Nice work, Karl! I know you're really into Jack Johnson and this definitely sounds flaky :P

Nope, like I said I want to download it. I have all of Karl's jazz stuff.

That was awesome, congrats.. I would love to hear you redo that with a very deep punchy Bass..Just to see how low and funky it could get. I bet it would sound much better imo. Much better than I could do at this time.

Very cool groove Karl. I like the sound of your snare....it fits the jam. I like the hi-hat work at the end too.

sounds really cool, especially the drums :). i don't think that punchy bass would make it sound better, thanks to that 'boom' it's very melodic.
one thing i would suggest you here Karl is to try play the same tune with accenting the upbeats on hihat instead of downbeats. not sayin it'd sound better, but at least change the character of the groove pretty much.
keep it up K.!

Hey Buddy,
That's some nice stuff there. The guitar and drums went very well together. And I cannot get over how great your snare sounds. Is it the Tama Superstar Snare? Awesome stuff man! Keep it up, you have a very good future ahead of ye.

WOW, never thought that this thread is still alive, totally forgot it...we recorded this track in JUNE! lol
At that time Daniel still had his acoustic Les Paul...(it is not an original Les Paul as far as I know)

I could do but as I said, it is so old and the sound isn`t so good I think. We`ll soon do such a session again and I can tell him to play this tune again and then I can give you a better version.
Would that be okay?

Hey Karl, not bad! I really like the bass drum sound, and your control of dynamics on it is quite good. Keep doing whatever you're doing and you'll be a funk monster in no time.
And Karl, that picture of you on the soundclick page is scaring me!

Yeah, as I said, it is all very old!
the pics, the recordings, all quite a half year old...and some are even older. At this time my drums were tuned so high but overall not so great.
I`ll record new stuff with my friend soon!
here are my newer recordings, I`ll do more soon when my hand is healthy again:
