Sherman Ferguson was born in Philadelphia, Oct.31 1944.
Has lived in Los Angeles since 1976. Performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Carter, Kenny Burrell, Pat Martino, Pharoah Sanders, Eddie Harris, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, James Moody, Ahmad Jamal, Bud Shank, Shorty Rogers, George Coleman, Gabor Szabo, Kenny Barron, Teddy Edwards, Buddy Collette, co-lead group"Catalyst", and also co-lead group "Heard,Ranier & Ferguson" and many others.
A real Jazz Who's Who. Teaches in Jazz Studies Dept. at UCLA and at UC Irvine. Is on the faculty at The Los Angeles Music Academy, and teaches privately at his own "Jazz Drumshop". And has recorded extensively with such names as mentioned above; Kenny Burrell, Benny Carter, Pat Martino, Pharoah Sanders, Bud Shank, Shorty Rogers etc.
Sherman Ferguson, a jazz drummer and a member of the faculty in the UCLA Jazz Studies Program, died from complications of diabetes on Jan. 22, 2006 at his home in La Crescenta, Calif. He was 61. Ferguson joined the UCLA faculty as a lecturer in January 2001 and taught a jazz ensemble class and private drum lessons.
