The Workshop with Jack DeJohnette in Basel Jazzschool on Monday Morning in Switzerland was a great experience. After playing with his Trio sunday evening at the OffBeatConcert in Basel a very lyrical sensational program, Jack showed all his abilities and skills in a workshop, who lasted more than seven hours.. ending up in a two-hour drumbattle with latin-drum-pro Andy Luescher, teacher at Jazzschool Basel.
We could notice the change to matched grip, due to some medical problems...but no problem for Jack, as he explained...
He spoke about Brush-playing and Jack said, that it would be a good idea, to play sometimes rockstuff with brushes. And then he mentioned the brushplaying of Mitch Mitchell - drummer of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. A good listening-example could be: "Up from the Skyes" on Axis Bold as love. So, the great Mitch is not forgotten.
He mentioned also Bernard Purdie as "Mr. Groove himself"and demonstrated some Purdie-Grooves. Yeahhh...
