The Kapelle Josef Menzl was founded during an affray at Brennberg (Bavaria) in July at 1995. Old music and young women were and are the marked preferences from the first eight, later nine musicians. Commonnesses like chronical lack of money, strengthened appetite for reproduction and the deep love to the bavarian breweries sticked the band together and were the fundament for the first successes. After that international premium engagements like the strawberry feast of Keilnberg (Bavaria) and then church feast at Oberisling (Bavaria, too) followed. This was the foundation of the comet-like rise of the Kapelle Josef Menzl.
The Kapelle Josef Menzl was first of all inspired from the band "d'Saulocker" of Regensburg which had this typical instrumentation at the seventies as first group after the 2nd worldwar. Later the amount of music pieces was endorsed from the repertoire of the band "Oskar Sattler", Wiesenfelden (earlyer "Bosl", Cham). Too, the style of music, which includes the mighty bass, the loud e-flat-clarinett and the sharp trumpets, was derivated from these "Forest-bands" (which means they came from the "Bavarian Forest" near the eastern boarder of Bavaria). In the early recordings of the Kapelle Otto Ebner from Deggendorf this style takes place as well.
The instrumentation was raised by a second hornplayer after some time. The horn-melody is in two voices now and the bandwith of the repertoire has grown much. It reaches from "Zwiefach", "Scotch" (really!), simple Songs, folk dances to street marches and old bohemian pieces. It doesn't matter so much if the piece is typical to the region of Oberpfalz or not but it does matter if the piece is typical to the band. So the program is acommodated to the particular event.
Because of the consistent line regarding to the repertoire the Kapelle Josef Menzl differs clearly from the commercialized wave of mass-entertainment. The pieces are mostly property of folks an arranged by our own editing.
The aim of Kapelle Josef Menzl is to express the bavarian joy of life and to infect the audience with it.
